Label: Kerf
Format: CD-R
Genre: Trance
Marcos made his name as a producer over a series of fantastic productions with production partner JK Walker. Together (and even separately since they split) they have both gone on to continue producing fantastic trance and hard trance.
Original
The first release on Marcos’ new digital label Kerf is a tough trancer devoid of the Electro/Tech sound that is drowning the scene at the moment.
Subtle bass drones in the intro combine with percussion to give it a slightly darker feel at the start. It soon picks up though into an uplifting tough trancer.
Strings float in the background leading well into a short break which accompanies the minimal vocal well.
Lots of energy in this tune so far, and I must admit it was nice to see Marcos back with something more in line with his older sound.
The main break is more of the same again but longer with more emphasis on the riff.
Good stuff!

JK Walker Remix
Surprise surprise, the JK Walker mix is a monster. I have loved pretty much everything this guy has ever done, including his more recent productions which have been veering ever more into the tech trance side of things.
Here though he is back to his old self, and what a return to firm this is! The bass is a distorted monster that reminds me of recent Kamui material, the use of the vocal is inspired, looping it with lots of echo to create tension for the bass introduction. The first mini break reveals an old school sounding riff that is FX’ed the fuck out of but still sounds great. Lots of atmospherics and continued (albiet more subtle) FX use make this tune very deep but still banging on the door of hard trance.
The break is where this tune owns all though. Lush pads are accompanied by strings and the vocal (of course). It’s only a short breakdown, but it drops back in amazingly with the proper sounding, full on riff. It takes a while to get there, but in the end it is more than worth it.

Damien James and Louk Remix
The last mix in here is the Damien James and Louk remix.
A very techy but also evil start makes this tune instantly different from the other two, however there is a lot of very similar percussion here from other Louk productions.
It’s definitely got more of a tech element that the others, but it’s still driving and tough.
A different approach to the vocal works well, as here it is chopped and plays a more prominent role in the track overall compared to the original and JK Walker remix.
It is almost unrecognisable from the other mixes, the riff being more gritty than euphoric the most notable difference.
It’s on a bit too much of a tech tip for my liking but I can see this getting hammered by the tech trance DJs who like it nice and tough.
6/10
